On Tuesday, April 21st, the Blockchain Research Center/Network Society Study Group will host the 2st Social Innovation Seminar, 2025.
The title is "Unraveling the Complexity of Cryptoasset Ecosystems" and the speaker will be Dr. Bernhard Haslhofer who co-leads the digital currency ecosystem research group at the Complex Systems Science Hub in Vienna. Previously, he served as a thematic coordinator in the Data Science & Artificial Intelligence research group at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), a Marie Curie Fellow at Cornell Information Science, and an assistant professor at the University of Vienna.
Cryptoassets have evolved into a complex, global ecosystem where diverse actors conduct financial transactions using various types of digital assets. The market has grown significantly, and the emergence of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) around 2021 marked a pivotal shift in the cryptoasset landscape. examined, there is an increasing need for computational methods to analyze these ecosystems, supporting law enforcement, regulators, compliance efforts, and researchers across disciplines seeking to understand their socio-economic dynamics and broader implications. This talk will introduce the field of cryptoasset analytics, showcase computational methods and algorithms we have developed to study complex cryptoasset ecosystems across multiple technical layers, and provide insights into our ongoing research in this evolving domain.
